SOL is happy to invite you to the opening of the first exhibition of the year, Metanoia III, ‘saturated solitude’ on Friday the 23th of May, from 15h – 19h.
At 17h you can join us for a guided tour at the harbour ending up at the concert of Adriana João, specially created for this occasion.
Channeling the meaning of the ancient Greek word 'metanoia' – understood as a radical change of one’s thought – the ongoing curatorial project Metanoiaaims to put in dialogue practices, entities, concepts, and points of view of distinct and sometimes paradoxical nature, to find hidden continuities or tensions between them, while speculatively provoking new ways of thinking and relating.
This third edition of the project, curated by Sofie Amalie Andersen and David Revés, brings together the works of Adriana João, Bruno Silva, Di Lança Branco, Mette Rasmussen, Nicky Sparre-Ulrich and Silas Inoue, marking the first iteration of a two-part exhibition that starts in Nexø, on the Danish island Bornholm, and continues in Lisbon, Portugal, in early 2026.
Unfolding across distinct geographies and temporalities, the show in SOL delves into some many experiences dear to the Metanoia project – extinction, decay, death, finitude and the passing of time – interweaving global and planetary collapse with both local and individual histories; from the exhaustion of natural ecosystems to the erosion of urban and rural identities or the vanishing of cultural narratives. Here, each piece radiates a particular way of solitude, shaped by the specific Bornholm context of islandness, by the artists’ individual identity, and by the generally growing solitude of contemporary life – but also as a an approach that allows immersion and attention to one’s own situated knowledge and feelings.
The exhibition is curated by David Revés and Sofie Amalie Andersen for the exhibition space SOL. The exhibition opens on Friday May 23rd and can be visited each Friday from 15h-17h and Saturdays and Sundays from 13-16h. The exhibition is supported by The Danish Art Foundation, New Carlsberg Foundation, The Obel Family Foundation and Bornholm Municipality.
